On Friday a student informed me that his uncle had left town and would not be returning. His uncle had been taking care of him since he was an infant. How was I supposed to react to that? Two days before this, we had a meeting and the uncle said he would help us in any possible way he could. I have been unable to reach the uncle or any other family member for that matter.

WHERE HAVE THE CLEAVERS GONE?
It is so disheartening to see that children now do not have the support systems that they did 50 to 60 years ago. I would have to say that 75% of my students are from single parent households, and that single parent usually has two jobs. Those students who do have a two parent household are a rare commodity.
