It is so disheartening to see that children now do not have the support systems that they did 50 to 60 years ago. I would have to say that 75% of my students are from single parent households, and that single parent usually has two jobs. Those students who do have a two parent household are a rare commodity.

Too sad. Things are a little brighter than that in our district right now but things are going down hill pretty fast.
It is important to know that our students do not have a support system at home, rather than assuming they do and watching them fail.
You are right about not having the support. The only time you see a parent, now a days, is when they want to come and chew you out for making their child unhappy or have inconveinced them in some way.
